Mahuraan Band performing at Galka’yo city

Art Program (Fanka & Farshaxanka): There is a powerful element in Somalia and particularly in Puntland that considers arts: including music, creativity, movies,  folktales, dancing, and arts and crafts, play (theatrical performance) very bad thing for people or they claim that arts is evil. Misleading the public is deceptive.  Probably, this difficult or almost impossible notion belief has caused many Puntlanders may have misconception on arts and artists. Therefore, this program (Art Program) provides an opportunity for artists, story tellers, poets, musicians, cartoonists, painters, architecters, actors/actresses, writers, entertainers, playwrights, dikri/dhikri reciters to talk about their artistic jobs/performances and listeners call to the artists and ask questions. Once a week Radio Sahan broadcasts/invites or interviews a group of artists/an artist to the program. Mahuraan Band spoke with Radio Sahn on their music

Educational Program (Barnaamijka Waxbarashada) Pastoral Nomads

Tent school for pastoral nomads at Aada-dheere

Nomadic pastoral children remain outside the education system and most of pastoral nomad children do not have the opportunity for an education.  Therefore, Somali Family Services (SFS) has organized official school hand-over and education campaign toward nomadic communities in Aada-Dheer.   Nomadic life is invaluable to Somali society and history. Pastoral nomads form over 60 percent of Puntland’s population. Facing climate change and drought many nomads have migrated to major towns in search of more sustainable livelihoods. Upon arrival, they face a multitude of challenges in managing urban life, and as a result are particularly susceptible to drug use and recruitment by criminal groups. Radio Sahan has engaged to talk about various issues and challenges affecting these groups as they take up the new urban lifestyle, their livelihoods and particularly those that are eventually engaged in to drugs and criminal activities Click here Below.
